With “The Story of O.J.” serving as JAY-Z’s sole video from his 4:44 album so far, we have been receiving bits and pieces of how the visual came to fruition. On Tuesday (July 4), director Mark Romanek provided insight behind the animated clip on Instagram.
Captioned “Early days,” Romanek allows viewers to see the early sketches behind some of the characters used in “The Story of O.J.” The clip displays several designers using computer screens and iPads to help the video’s cartoon characters come to life.
After the controversial video was released last week, JAY-Z unveiled a new visual titled “Footnotes for ‘The Story of O.J.” The compelling video features Hollywood heavyweights including Kendrick Lamar, Will Smith, Mahershala Ali, Chris Rock, Michael Che, Michael B. Jordan, Van Jones and Trevor Noah discussing racism in America, and the benefits of fame for African Americans.
“Fame is the greatest gift God can give a black man,” says Rock in the star-studded video.
