Lionel Messi extended his current contract last week which will keep him at the Nou Camp until 2021, by which point he will be 34.
The new deal will see a £263m release clause inserted into his contract in order to put off potential suitors.
It was thought originally he would take home wages equating to £500,000 a week.
But according to the Sunday Times, Messi’s gross salary will be £54.8m.
It is said his basic wage will be a whopping £1m a week.
Not only has he overtaken Cristiano Ronaldo as La Liga’s best-paid player, but he is also one of the world’s highest earning sports stars.
Ronaldo currently nets £365,000 a week which works out at around £19m a year.
However, the Portuguese star is currently fuming after being accused of tax fraud by the Spanish authorities.
Should Messi stay at Barca for the full four years, the report adds, the Catalan giants will end up paying him £220m before performance-related bonuses kick in.
